Spring Workshop Series: Espalier– Spring Pruning Techniques • Saturday, JUNE 14th, 2025 • 11am-1pm

from $40.00

Join us in the HOEC Community Orchard for this hands-on workshop dedicated to the art of espalier pruning in the spring season.

Originating in ancient Egypt and later refined in medieval European gardens, espalier is a management technique that transforms fruit trees into beautifully structured, space-saving forms. This method not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also improves sun exposure, increases fruit production, and makes harvesting more accessible.

This session will cover techniques for shaping and maintaining espaliered fruit trees, optimizing growth, and encouraging healthy fruit production. Vegetative management early in the growing season is needed to prevent unwanted growth patterns and achieve desired aesthetic and function of the trees in your space. This workshop is a natural continuation of learning from the Espalier Winter Pruning course, however, all skill and knowledge levels are welcome.

Know before you go:

  • If you have them, please bring bypass hand pruners, loppers, and a pruning saw. If you do not, you may borrow from our stash.

  • All workshops are held outdoors rain or shine. Please dress for the weather!

  • Bring your own water bottle.

Refunds:

  • Due to limited class space, please note: workshops are non-refundable after purchase with the exception of weather-related campus closures.

  • Refunds are available for weather related campus closures if rescheduling is not possible. Please keep an eye on your inbox (and spam folder) for an email including rescheduling information if applicable.

We look forward to learning with you!
