Summer Workshop Series: Bud Grafting & Take Home A Tree! • Saturday JUNE 21st, 2025 • 10am-12pm

from $40.00

Join us in the HOEC Community Orchard to learn the basic techniques of bud grafting as well as how to identify and harvest appropriate “bud wood.”

Bud grafting is a skill that will allow you to add multiple varieties of fruit to a single tree!  It is a relatively easy technique that involves attaching a leaf bud from one variety of tree to the rootstock or branch of another, so the resulting branch grows to be the variety of fruit of the selected bud. Let’s say you are growing a Granny Smith apple tree, and you want to add on a branch that produces a different type of apple. Bud grafting is the skill you need to learn!

All students will get a chance to practice grafting and take home their own apple or plum tree at the end of the workshop.

Know before you go:

  • If you have them, please bring bypass hand pruners and a grafting knife. If you don’t have those things, you may borrow from our stash.

  • All workshops are held outdoors rain or shine. Please dress for the weather.

Refunds:

  • Due to limited class space, please note: workshops are non-refundable after purchase with the exception of weather related campus closures.

We look forward to learning with you!
